Odai Bag Shrine

Located in Downtown Toyooka, Odai Shrine is a Shinto shrine which is home to multiple smaller shrines honoring local deities.

The small Yanagi-no-Miya Shrine is dedicated to Kunitsukuri-Oonamuchi-no-Mikoto, the god of bags – a fitting shrine for Toyooka, Japan’s number one producer of bags.

Here, visitors can write prayers on bag-shaped ema prayer plaques and offer them to Kunitsukuri-Oonamuchi-no-Mikoto.

Every year on Wallet Day (March 12) and Bag Day (August 9), a Bag Memorial Service is held here.
