Shinzan is wonderful traditional Japanese Ryokan in Kinnosaki Onsen. I stayed two times there and I would always come back.
I had wonderful stay and unforgettable memories. The level of this Ryokan is outstanding, despite its lil bit outside the main area.
Shinzan offers in house Onsen, which are really comfortable. The rooms are big and bed comfortable.
If you book with breakfast and diner, you will enjoy in restaurant. The whole team and staff are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place!

We had a fantastic stay at Shinzan. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The onsen is stunning. The staff were extremely kind and helpful right from check in. I will also add that there was a huge snowstorm on our final day. Our train was cancelled and the staff arranged for a bus to take us to a town not affected by the storm. They truly went above and beyond. Highly recommend!

So nice. Staff spoke English well and explained how to use the Onsen. Must try to visit both baths, they switch over each day. Also crab dinner was amazing and the most crab I’ve ever eaten.

I stayed in the kinosaki onsen town for total of 4 days, and only spent 1 night here. I paid $515 USD for two people, so it was rather expensive and although it’s a great one time experience, I don’t think it was so spectacular that I’d pay that price again to repeat.

If you’re looking for an onsen town experience, I think you can stay at a cheap guest house and rent yukata from one of the shops and get a similar experience by going to the public onsens. The Shinzan onsens were for sure emptier and maybe even better maintained, and having an onsen within the same building of your accommodation felt very luxurious. However, I felt that the meals provided were only pleasant in presentation but lacked flavor.

Overall it was a good experience, but I didn’t think the experience lived up to the price.

Very nice hotel - 10 mins to walk to the city centre but that’s all right and there is a shuttle. Facilities are very nice and clean, staff is very friendly

A newly renovated onsen inn. Friendly staffs. A large portion of food (dinner and breakfast). Frequent shuttle bus available toward outside onsens.

I really appreciate the shuttle bus driver on Oct 28 at night. He stopped and picked me up while I was on my way back to the inn, although he didn't have to.

Be sure to check out the outdoor onsen that is upstairs and outside! It's extremely beautiful and peaceful. We almost missed it because it was through a very unassuming looking door. They change the onsens every day at midday so you'll be able to check out both Onsen (only one has that outdoor upstairs onsen thats beautiful but both have an outside onsen portion)

Very friendly and accommodating staff. They provide umbrellas and geta/boots/shoes for outdoors when you venture out to see the other onsens. The manager even greeted us at dinner and that really added a special touch in staying here! Highly recommend this place!

The only reason why I put 4 is that the location is a bit far from main city and all the onsens and there isn't much of a view around (at least not from our room!)

I honestly don’t understand how this onsen is sitting at just 3 stars - did someone confuse it with a laundromat? From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, it was a 5-star experience all the way. The staff were warm and welcoming, the atmosphere instantly relaxing, and the whole place felt like the world outside hit the pause button. Everything was spotless, from the baths to the common areas. Even the kids were thrilled, their meals were so good we almost wanted to order from the kids’ menu ourselves.

Dinner was another highlight: beautifully prepared, flavorful, and truly memorable. My only minor quibble? I wouldn’t have minded if the beverage refills flowed a bit faster - because when you’re that relaxed, lifting a finger to flag someone down feels like too much effort. But honestly, that’s nitpicking. The reality is this onsen delivered on every front: relaxation, cleanliness, hospitality, and dining. Definitely not a 3-star spot - it deserves a glowing 5 stars and then some

Loved our stay at Shinzan. The staff were friendly and attentive to all of our needs. The traditional rooms are both beautiful and well equipped, The dinner was incredible and unlike anything I’ve ever had. I don’t know why Shinzan is not rated higher - 5 stars for me!

Above and beyond. I had left a pair of jeans in my room upon checkout. I rode the shuttle to the station and as we exited, hotel staff had followed us in a separate car to deliver my jeans. I didn’t even know I had left it behind! So incredibly thoughtful. This place was wonderful and I highly recommend staying again. Impeccable location and hotel staff.

Not sure how this could possibly be a 3-star hotel. It should be a 4-star hotel or higher. Service is impeccable. The hot springs bath house is one of the best in town. You do get a pass to go check out the other hot springs.We got to check out 2 other ones and the one 4 baths at Shinzan were better. Food for dinner and breakfast was delicious, especially the crab. We did the traditional room and it was very clean, spacious, and stylish. Very cozy hotel stay. Everything they did was meticulously chosen for convenience, from the small baskets to take with you to go shopping, light and heavy jackets to go out of the town, and the shuttle. This was one of our highlights in Japan and we wish we could have stayed for longer.

My first stay at a Ryokan and first stay in an onsen town and I could not have chosen a better place to stay. I was initially hesitant about not knowing what to do but those fears were alleviated as soon as I checked in. The staff are polite and courteous and sit down with you to go over how everything works, from dinner to breakfast to the public onsen located in the ryokan to how to use the bathhouses throughout the town (which are also included during your stay for free). They then take you to your room and explain every inch (if you’re staying in the traditional room) and show you where everything is. There is a free shuttle from the train station and you get shuttle service back when you check out. They also have shuttles that go around town but it’s a relatively short and peaceful walk so that’s what I chose to do majority of the time. Can’t stress enough how easy and relaxing everything felt here. It’s one of the best stays I’ve had anywhere. The public baths within the ryokan are beautiful and relaxing as well, probably even more so than some of the bath houses in town to be honest. Highly highly recommend this place.

Little far from the main street(You have to walk 10-15min.), but it was okay because the shuttle bus was running every 30 minutes from 4:00 pm. Hotel facilities and service were great, especially the room was very clean and neat. Also, public onsen in the hotel has a nice vibe, too.

Excellent service, excellent stay, excellent onsen. You won’t regret it!!! Make sure to stay 2 nights to fully enjoy the town. We had a bullet train at 7am in the morning and they had a shuttle waiting for us at check out to bring us to the station.

Hotel has just renovated 3 months ago. Excellent service! Staffs are very warm and friendly, detailed oriented. Location are not far from other hot spring venues.
Meals from hotel are very exquisite. The peach aperitif wine made by the chef is addictive. The quality of the hotel overall is beyond expectations. We came here on birthday day, hotel has prepared a nice fruit platter and a small Japan made gift. We have already reserved the next visit and will definitely come back again.
