Private Guided Oriental White Stork Satoyama Cycling Tour (Course B)
This tour is only from March-November.

Become familiar with the Japanese concept of "Satoyama" through cycling
Satoyama (里山) is a simple word with nuanced significance to Toyooka City, part of the expansive San'in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark.
Literally meaning "land and mountain," satoyama mixes the natural world with humanity, such as a collection of sustainable farmlands, forests, and grasslands all enveloped by hilly peaks and shared between humans and animals.
Japan's National Natural Treasure, the Oriental White Stork, is a vital part of Toyooka City's satoyama landscape.
With an experienced English-speaking guide, cycle through Toyooka's satoyama scenery and see storks along the way.

Meet your guide at Toyooka Station and Visit the Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork
After introductions at Toyooka Station, peddle off with your guide towards the Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork, a sanctuary for protecting, breeding, and researching storks.
Learn from expert staff about the history of storks in Toyooka City while seeing these treasures up close.

Cycle past Toyooka Reconstruction Architecture
Toyooka City suffered devastating damage in the North Tajima Earthquake on May 23, 1925. As part of the post-disaster reconstruction efforts, many reinforced concrete buildings were built throughout the city along with a new shopping arcade.
Many of these buildings still remain today, preserving a distinct retro style blending Japanese and Western influences.

Japan's Bag Heritage
Did you know Toyooka City makes up to 80 percent of Made in Japan bags?
Stretching approximately 200 meters, Caban Street is where Toyooka’s long-established bag-making industry come together with local businesses in one unique area. Lined with specialty shops related to bags, the street also features a bag vending machine and bag-shaped benches—charming quirks unique to Toyooka.
Caban Street is also home to Odai Shrine, the only shrine in Japan dedicated to Odai, the god of bags. Write a prayer on a bag-shaped prayer plaque and hang it for good luck.
