Exhibits regarding the region’s development during the early Jomon, Yayoi, and Kofun Periods of Japanese history along with later periods of history such as the Meiji Period are on display with various excavated artifacts and artwork.
A regularly changing temporary exhibition room also displays special exhibitions.
Acitivites are also available for an additional fee, including experiences where visitors can create their own “ancient ceramics,” jewelry, and haniwa (traditional Japanese burial statues).

Located nearby the ancient ruins of Kokubunji Temple, the Toyooka Museum of History houses exhibits relating to the historical creation of Toyooka City and the surrounding area.
During the 700s, Emperor Shōmu ordered for the construction of a provincial Buddhist temple (known as Kokubunji in Japanese) in every province of the country. The provincial Buddhist temple of the ancient Tajima Province was situated nearby the modern-day Toyooka Museum of History.
The museum is also referred to as the Tajima Kokubunji Museum due to its close distance from the temple ruins.
