The annual onsen festival will be held in Kinosaki Onsen this weekend on the 23rd and 24th April in 2016. It is held on the anniversary of the death of Dochi Shonin, the founder of Kinosaki Onsen. Dochi Shonin was a Buddhist monk who received a vision which told him to pray for the local people`s health during 1000 days. After he did so, it is said that Onsen (hot springs) sprung forth from the earth.
Over the course of the weekend there will be lots of food stalls and events such as parades, a treasure hunt and stage shows featuring the local power rangers the “Onsengers”. Over this weekend you can also get discounts on tickets for the Kinosaki Onsen Ropeway, aswell as discounted entry into the Kinosaki Art and Literature Museum (Bungeikan) and the Kinosaki Straw Craft Museum. Entry into the following three onsens is also free over both days: Jizonoyu, Yanagi-yu and Mandara-yu. There will be a fun atmosphere and lots to do, so please come to enjoy it!
